As an illustrator my background gives me a unique insight into fashion. After spending five years studying fine arts in Paris, I worked as a communication consultant for many leading fashion designers.
In 2004 I moved to London to set up getconfused - a company which offers consultancy and creative solutions to clients from all around the world.
I began producing illustrations as a favour to friends in the fashion industry who needed them for lookbooks, magazines and websites. On the trail of those I started to receive press interest and these days I create imagery for publications spanning both the independent and mainstream press.
More recently I have also produced prints for wallpapers and ceramics.
I find inspiration in a wide variety of places. Living between Paris and London I feel at ease with the visual landscapes of both cities. As art and fashion capitals, they are a byword for innovation, creativity and metropolitan edge.
I begin by experimenting with old-school processes such as painting, drawing and ceramics, and I then compose the final montages in photoshop.
I like to mix several techniques but aim for restraint and minimalism in the finished work. I like the results achieved from combining these two approaches.
コリン・バーンは現在イラストレーターとて方面で活躍しているが、今まで歩んできた経験を強いバックボーンとし、特にアートやファッションに関してユニークな見識眼を身につけている奇才なアーティストだ。
もともとパリでファイン・アートを5年間勉強し、その後はちまたで活躍しているデザイナーたちのコミュニケーション・コンサルタントを務めた。
2004 年ロンドンへ移り住んでから直ぐ、会社 getconfused.netを立ち上げ、まずはコンサルタントとして世界中から殺到する依頼人の声に応えるべく、クリエイティブ業への助言・指導や解決案を提供してきた。
またその後、必要とされれば身近な人々のためにもルックブック・雑誌やウェブサイトの制作においてファッション業界でも活躍。
徐々に出版者から関心を抱かれることが引き金となり、自主出版的な小さなプレス会社やメインストリーム的な大手プレス会社の両者に及び、ついには彼らの出版物のためにイラストレーションを制作・提供し始めた。
ここ最近では以下に記す出版社やファッションウィーク運営団体へもイラストを提供している。
Vogue, Nylon Japan & USA, Plastique, Bon, Slurp magazine, London Fashion Week, Barcelona Fashion Week, Rush.
「ロンドンとパリに住みながらその風景や訪れる様々な場所からインスピレーションを得る。特にアートとファッションに関しては“斬新さ、創造性、また大都市の鋭さ”という点で両都市は代名詞的存在なのだ。作品においては、最終的にフォトショップで編集するにしても、きちんとスケッチブックに作品を残していくと言うよりはむしろ、昔ながらの方法で絵の具や鉛筆によって描いたものやセラミック塗料を用いて実験的に試行錯誤しながらイラストレーション作りをし始めることが多い。最後に作品を整えながらミニマリズム化することを目指してはいるが、様々なテクニックを混合してハイテクとローテクの可能性を駆使しながら作品を完成させるのを楽しんでいる。」と自身の世界観を語るコリン・バーンに是非注目していきたい。
